Sky News was halted for a breaking bulletin today (April 19) after a synagogue in Harrow was targeted in an attempted arson attack. Correspondent Phoebe Southworth was at Kenton United Synagogue in north-west London, interviewing locals and getting the latest information on the unfolding events to viewers.
She explained: “We’re getting a few more details from the Metropolitan Police, and in the last few minutes we’ve heard a bit more about what happened at Kenton United Synagogue in Harrow. We know now that the incident happened at about midnight last night – a bottle with accelerant was thrown through one of the windows and ended up causing damage to one of the rooms.
“There was thankfully no structural damage to the building and there are no reported injuries, but obviously an incredibly concerning incident for people here in Harrow.”
She added: “Earlier we spoke to a man called Joe, who works just nearby, and his family live just two streets away. This is what he had to say.”
On-screen, Joe said: “I have a strong emotional attachment to this area, this is my local area. I want it to be safe, I want it to be respected. Obviously we’ve woken up this morning I’m sure all the local residents here, regardless of background, must be very concerned.”

It comes after prime minister Keir Starmer said he was “appalled” at the spate of arson attacks targeting Jewish sites, stating: “I am appalled by recent attempted antisemitic arson attacks in North London.
“This is abhorrent and it will not be tolerated. Attacks on our Jewish community are attacks on Britain.
“We are increasing visible policing and those responsible will be found and brought to justice.”
