Sadiq Khan was forced to take hasty action after sharing a message about St George’s Day – on the wrong day. The London Mayor posted on X on Tuesday, saying: “I’ve always said London’s diversity is our greatest strength.

“Today on St George’s Day I’m joined by interfaith leaders from across London. We come together to celebrate all that unites us and affirm St George’s Day flag as a symbol that belongs to us all.” But St George’s Day is in fact on Thursday. The mistake prompted it to be swiftly changed to say: “Ahead of St George’s Day I was joined by interfaith leaders from across London.

“We came together to celebrate all that unites us and affirm the flag of St George as a symbol that belongs to us all.”

A spokesman for the Mayor admitted what he described as a “typo”.

He said: “The Mayor was delighted to attend London’s St George’s Day festival at Trafalgar Square on Sunday to celebrate everything that is great about England.

“The original post about the event featured a typo which was amended, and the Mayor will be proudly marking the day itself this Thursday with a video message.”

X user Chris Rose, who shared grabs of the post on the social media platform, commented: “Sadiq Khan has now deleted his St George’s Day post and posted a new one.

“Imagine being the Mayor of London and not knowing when St George’s Day is.”
